The emergency department is a critical component of our national overdose response strategy. As a primary interface between the community and the medical and behavioral health systems, the emergency department is uniquely positioned to provide access and integration to improve addiction care.
By coordinating efforts nationally, we work to improve the implementation of evidence-based strategies across the U.S.
We support local leaders and state-based organizations to provide 24/7 access to ED-initiated addiction treatment nationwide.
NEAT coordinates and supports a network of leaders in the implementation and quality improvement of ED-based addiction treatment and harm reduction. NEAT connects leaders nationally to support the implementation of Emergency Department substance use disorder initiatives. Funded by the FORE Foundation.
Intensive training and technical assistance to Emergency Departments in select communities and Indian Health Service sites establish Emergency Department medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) programs and support local clinicians caring for patients with MOUD. Funded by the Opioid Response Network.
Consultation and connection for providers and administrators at the site, system, state, and federal levels.
These resources have been developed by experts in addiction medicine and are designed to guide clinical practice with up-to-date, evidence-based recommendations. They support people working to reduce overdose deaths and expand access to medications for opioid and alcohol use disorders.
Educational videos and materials for clinicians, emergency medical services, hospital administrators, tribal leaders, and people affected by substance use disorder. The toolkit covers substance use disorders, medication for alcohol use disorder (MAUD), medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD), and overdose prevention utilizing naloxone.
